Position Overview
We are seeking a Manager of Volunteer and Complimentary Therapies to join our team. This individual will manage and supervise the activities of the Grace Healthcare Services Volunteer coordinators in addition to working in the full capacity as a volunteer for a specific territory. The Manager of Volunteer and Complimentary Therapies will maintain volunteer program compliance with Grace Healthcare Services' policies and procedures and state and federal guidelines.


What you will do:

  • Supervise the activities of the volunteer coordinators, making suggestions for maximizing recruitment and support efforts for the volunteer department.
  • Post recruitment advertisements on volunteer websites such a Volunteer Match and Craig's list and refreshes these postings as required to remain current.
  • Collect and review the volunteer coordinator monthly reports by territory; update the Volunteer Department spread sheets: volunteer roster, leave of absence, new inquiries, remote volunteers/groups and office volunteers from these reports.
  • Assist in the development of goals for each Volunteer Coordinator and their area assigning the number of volunteer hours each area should produce per month based on census.
  • Provide consistent support to volunteers, prepare evaluations and write-ups if necessary.
  • Conduct quarterly field day with volunteers to review process and workflow.
  • Conduct monthly department meetings to share ideas, organize joint activities and trainings for the department.
  • Calculate the monthly volunteer numbers for the department, reporting the percent match of volunteer to bedside hours. This number is then broken down by team and sent to the Director of Operations and Administrator along with the associated cost savings.
  • The Lead Volunteer Coordinator attends relevant hospice organization meetings and events.
  • Plans in-services as well as other special events for the department and associated volunteers.
  • Manages the development and publishing of the volunteer newsletter on a bi-annual basis.
  • Recruits, trains and assigns direct patient care and remote volunteers for his/her specific territory(ies).
  • Maintain a regular flow of correspondence, notices, and verbal contact with all volunteers.
  • Maintains documentation of all volunteer visits made to patients on paper or in Brightree.
  • Promote utilization of Complementary Therapies by actively seeking volunteer assignments from the Grace IDT staff
  • Develop and demonstrate community interest and executive commitment to volunteer engagement by promoting Grace's volunteer program to gain community and organizational support.
  • Develop monitoring system and regularly assess performance
  • Develop a strategy and infrastructure for volunteer engagement including an annual plan which will be revisited at least once annually.
  • Prepare an annual report outlining the volunteer plan's contributions.
  • Maintain contracts, communication and scheduling with colleges for nurse shadowing program.
  • Adhere to the practice of confidentiality with regard to patients, staff, customers and all aspects of the organization.
  • Ensure that Grace Healthcare Services best practices are incorporated into all job activities/responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you need:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Volunteer Coordinator required
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff
  • Previous community marketing experience preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
